In a social media post on the celebration of ASEM Day on 1 March 2017, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belgium mentioned their main areas of concern within the ASEM Process.
"At the last Summit in Ulaanbaatar (Mongolia) in July 2016, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Didier Reynders called on his Asian and European partners to work together on combating terrorism and violent extremism".
"Other ASEM priorities for Belgium include sustainable development, the implementation of the Paris Agreement on climate change and promoting connectivity between Europe and Asia, while defending the core values of democracy, free speech and rule of law. Recently, Belgium committed itself to ASEM activities in the fields of disaster risk reduction, fight against terrorism and education".
