As the death of a language means the demise of its culture\, the disappearance of any language is\, therefore\, an irreparable loss for the heritage of all humankind. Safeguarding this diversity today is one of the most urgent challenges facing our world.\n&n bsp\;\nThe ASEM Language Diversity Forum (ASEM LDF) will be the first ASEM Meeting which will gather scholars\, experts and policy makers in the fie ld of culture and language to discuss strategies and approaches in Safegua rding and Promoting Language Diversity in Asia and Europe towards Sustaina ble Development. ASEM LDF aims to create a platform of cooperation among r elated stakeholders to exchange best practices in protecting the diversity of cultural expressions.\n \;\nASEM LDF is scheduled to be held in on the 4-5 September 2012 in Hotel Borobudur\, Jakarta\, Indonesia\, and wil l highlight 4 (four) essential topics related to the strategies in protect ing language diversity in Asia and Europe:\n\n\nLanguage diversity policie s and issues in Asia and Europe\;\n\n\nExchange of best practices in safeg uarding and promoting language and cultural diversity\n\n\nStrategies in p rotecting and promoting language diversity in relation to sustainable econ omic development\;\n\n\nThe role of media and ICT in safeguarding and prom oting language diversity\n\n\nASEM LDF is expected to produce a recommenda tion for action plans on language diversity in Asia and Europe.
