The second Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM 2) was held in London on 3 & 4 April 1998. It was attended by heads of state and government from ten Asian and 15 European nations and the President of the European commission, under the chairmanship of the prime minister of the United Kingdom Rt. Hon. Tony Blair-- acting also as president of the Council of the European Union. Leaders were accompanied by their foreign ministers, members of the European Commission and other ministers.
ASEM 2 reaffirmed the partnership between Asia and Europe to carry the ASEM process forward. The review of the progress made since the inaugural meeting revealed that concrete activities have been taken to strengthen links between the two regions. The financial crises in Asia dominated ASEM 2's discussions.
