The first ASEM Conference of Ministers of Culture followed an initiative by China and was co-sponsored by France, Denmark, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore. It brought together the Ministers to discuss issues of cultural diversity in Asia and Europe. The Ministers particularly appreciated the contributions made to cultural exchanges by the Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF, details at website www.asef.org). Follow-up actions include, notably, the encouragement of exchanges by young people and the organisation of cultural and arts festivals. France offered to host the next ASEM Conference on Cultures and Civilisations. |
