The event was co-chaired by Spain and the Philippines and co-sponsored by Indonesia. The 8th Meeting of the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) Procedures Working Group (PWG) was held on 27-28 April 2005 in Singapore and chaired by Ms Teo Siew Lan from Singapore. The Meeting was attended by representatives from Belgium, Brunei Darussalam, China, Finland, France, Germany, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Korea, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Netherlands, Poland, Singapore, Sweden, Thailand, Vietnam, the United Kingdom and the European Commission.

The 6th ASEM Customs DG-Commissioner Meeting took place in Peebles on 27-28 June 2005. The Meeting was attended by the Heads of Customs Administrations and senior customs officials from 34 Asian and European countries. Senior officials from the European Commission, the European Council and the World Customs Organisation also participated.

At the invitation of the European Commission, ASEM members (Asia-Europe meeting) including representatives of the customs administrations of Austria, Belgium, Brunei-Darussalam, China, Cyprus, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Luxemburg, Malaysia, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Thailand, the United Kingdom and the European Commission met in Brussels on 30-31 May 2005, to participate in the 8th ASEM Customs enforcement working group (EWG).

ASEM Ministerial Meeting on Cultures and Civilisations - Chairman's Statement

The first ASEM Conference of Ministers of Culture followed an initiative by China and was co-sponsored by France, Denmark, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore. It brought together the Ministers to discuss issues of cultural diversity in Asia and Europe. The Ministers particularly appreciated the contributions made to cultural exchanges by the Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF, details at website www.asef.org). Follow-up actions include, notably, the encouragement of exchanges by young people and the organisation of cultural and arts festivals. France offered to host the next ASEM Conference on Cultures and Civilisations
ASEM Ministerial Conference on Cooperation for the Management of Migratory Flows between Europe and Asia

This ad hoc Ministerial Conference, co-initiated by China, Germany and Spain was endorsed at ASEM 3 in Seoul.
Follow-up includes exchange of information on flows of migrants, cooperation in improving the quality and security of travel documents, fighting forgery of documents, setting up networks of immigration and consular liaison officers and meetings at expert and director-general level.

At the Third Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM 3) in Seoul, Leaders discussed the situation on the Korean Peninsula in the context of encouraging developments in relations between the Republic of Korea (ROK) and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK). They shared the view that peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula were closely linked to those both of the Asia-Pacific region and of the world as a whole.
