Thailand has announced this event at the Third Asia-Europe Meeting of Ministers for Education (ASEMME-3), held on 9-10 May 2011 in Copenhagen, Denmark as well as at the 10th ASEM Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (ASEM FMM 10), held on 6-7 June 2011 in Godollo, Hungary.

  • ASEM Conference on the Harmonization of Biofuels Standards and Application to Vehicle Technologies

The Symposium will aim towards advancing practical cooperation on strategies that promote forest-based climate change mitigation and adaptation actions among senior officials of Forestry Management and relevant policy makers from ASEM countries as well as prominent academics and representatives from related international/regional organizations.

    The ASEM SMEs Eco-Innovation Center (ASEIC) was established in February 2011 with the principal mandate of promoting Asia-Europe cooperation to create and enhance eco-innovation of small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) in both regions. The environmental and economic dimension of discourse was entrusted to the ASEIC beyond geographical distances. The ASEIC was officially launched on 15 June.

    The 2009 figures produced by the International Maritime Bureau on piracy incidents show a marked global increase in comparison to 2008. Taking this into account, combating piracy at sea will be one of the important issues for the next Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM), which is to be held in Brussels (Belgium) on 4-5 October 2010. The seminar aims to draw on the wide variety of experiences acquired by Asian and European ASEM partners in real life situations in order to identify how further progress could be made in the fight against piracy. The seminar will be open to government participants and to non-governmental actors. In this context, ASEM partners are called upon to nominate experts, speakers and panelists whose contributions would advance the objectives pursued. Japan, the Republic of Indonesia and the Philippines are co-sponsors of this event.

    At the ASEM Culture Ministers Meeting in Paris, 2005, Poland claimed the readiness to host the 4th CMM. The proposal was approved and the Meeting in Poland was re-scheduled to 2010, after the previous CMM in Kuala Lumpur was moved from 2007 to 2008. Poland reconfirmed the willingness of hosting the 4th CMM during the plenary session of Ministers in Kuala Lumpur, April 2008 (see 3rd CMM Chairman's Statement). Recently, it has been decided that the venue of the 4th CMM will be the City of Poznań, which successfully hosted the United Nations Climate Change Conference last year, and which is at the same time a boosting cultural and academic centre. Poland, being the hosting country of the 4th CMM, will organize the first Preparatory Meeting in Cracow with the intention of carrying out a presentation of the plans, agenda and details of the 4th Culture Ministers Meeting in Poznań 2010.

    ASEM partners decided to focus on counter-terrorism during the 4th ASEM summit in Denmark in 2002, and thus agreed on a declaration on cooperation against international terrorism. Con­ferences on counter terrorism have since then taken place on a yearly basis, in Beijing 2003, Berlin 2004, and Semarang 2005. The conference in Copenhagen will build on the previous conferences, take stock on the concrete cooperation initiatives, and share experiences with other international fora.
